Update on measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

Update on Legionnaires’ Cluster Associated with a Hotel in Spain

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

In addition to the above times Dr Durie, our only female partner, has a very limited number of bookable appointments which she will use at her discretion.

Please let us know if you are unable to attend an appointment which you have booked with Dr Durie or with Dr Cusworth or Dr Smith at the Early Bird sessions. We can then offer these limited appointments to other patients.

When We Are Closed

Between 6pm and 8am, Monday to Friday, and 6pm Friday until 8am Monday the surgery is closed.

A Receptionist at the Call Centre will answer your call. She will either

Arrange advice from a Doctor or a Nurse
Invite you to attend the centre to be seen by the Doctor (normally at Roodlands Hospital, Haddington)
Arrange a home visit if you are too ill to visit the centre.

Transport to and from the centre is available if you cannot arrange this yourself. Please take a leaflet for further details from reception.
